Albay Park and Wildlife: A Close Encounter With Nature

April 29, 2018 0 Comments

Summer season is the perfect time to travel, enjoy the beauty of nature, and the heat of the sun. Looking into Chart of Season and Months Around the World, it can be noted that in most parts of the world, April and May are the months for summer and spring.

In the Philippines, summer season would usually occur during the months of April and May. These are also the months when classes are implementing the two-month vacation period for the students. This is the reason why Filipino families are taking the advantage of traveling to other places and visiting the famous tourist spots in the country.

Albay, A Great Place to Visit

Albay province is located in the Southeastern Luzon of the Philippines. Reachable via air and land, Albay is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the country. The presence of the famous Mayon Volcano in the vicinity of the province is making it popular throughout the whole world.

Unknown to many, there are other places which are equally awesome and worth the visit to the province of Albay. One of these is the Albay Park and Wildlife.

A lovely gazebo in the middle of the lagoon is a perfect place for picture taking or just having to view the fantastic sceneries around the area. There are also fishes in the lagoon. This is actually my favorite part of the place.

Can you resist the invitation of these enticing mini boats waiting for you to ride on them and traverse the lagoon?

Sumlang Lake: A Place of Calm and Serenity

April 17, 2018 0 Comments

A place of calm and serenity. A perfect place to unwind and take a break from the daily grind. That's how I describe the Sumlang Lake.

Albay is popular across the globe because of the magnificent Mayon Volcano which lies within the land of the province. Just recently, a huge wave of tourists from different parts of the world including those visitors from the neighboring regions visited the province in order to witness the spectacular Volcanic Eruption which has lasted for almost three (3) months. The longest volcanic eruption that I have known.

Mayon Volcano's popularity cannot be equaled by the passing of time. Ever since it has been the major tourist attraction in this province. Legazpi city, being the most accessible place from this tourist attraction has gained the highest percentage in terms of income and is now the center of development in the province. Business establishment owners such as hotels and restaurants flourished the city with a common thing in the mind. To see to it that they have a clear view of the Mayon Volcano.

What Sumlang Lake Has to Offer?

It's just a lake! A small body of water.

I agree with that premise. But the joy it could offer seems enormous. Needless to say, you may want to stay the whole day there just watching the Mayon Volcano. Riding those boats made of bamboo and decorated with locally-made seats which will give you picture-perfect photos. Life is beautiful!

This is the reason why the good things about Sumlang Lake spread across the social media in just a short span of time. People became curious and couldn't wait any longer to visit the place and experience the joy of being close to nature.

My daughter was able to visit the place with her friends in 2016

While my hubby and I were only able to visit the place a couple of weeks ago. We have been planning to visit the place but the work schedule that we have makes it nearly impossible for us to go there. Finally, we made it!

A Brief history of Sumlang Lake

Sumlang Lake is located in the town of Camalig, a first class municipality in the province of Albay known for its native delicacy, pinangat. The lake was used to be an ordinary body of water with full of water lilies and other vegetation. Through the concerted efforts of the head of the village, Punong Barangay Felipe Noe M. Napa Jr., and the village council, a clean-up drive has been initiated. Upon seeing the possibilities of being a tourist destination, the council has worked for the recognition of Sumlang Lake as another tourist spots in the province.

The Local Government of Camalig, Albay has been very supportive of this endeavor and not long after, the provincial government of Albay has included the Sumlang Lake as one of the tourist destinations in the province.

How to Get to Sumlang Lake?

If you are coming from Manila traveling by land and you want to drop by the place without first going to Legazpi City, you can stop at the municipality of Camalig and look for Sumlang village.

If you will be coming in via plane, you may refer to the map below for further details.

The place is more or less 30-minute ride from Legazpi City Domestic Airport. You can hire a taxi to take you to the place or you can choose to use other public transportation such as jeepney via Camalig or Guinobatan.

Fees and Other Charges:

Here are the fees you have to expect when visiting the place.

Parking fee - Php 10.00/20.00 ($0.20/0.40)
Entrance Fee - Php 20.00 ($0.40)
Balsa (bamboo boat) Tour - Php 25.00 ($0.50) for 30 minutes
Kayaking - Php 50.00 ($1.00) for 30 minutes
Aqua Biking - Php 50.00 ($1.00) for 30 minutes
Floating Cottage - Php 300.00 ($6.00)  for 1 hour (Good for 8-10 persons)
Use of Washroom - Php 5.00 ($0.10)

There are stores in the area where you can buy foods. Additionally, a fine dining restaurant, Socorro's Restaurant can be found in the area.

You can also find souvenir items and Pilinut candies in the 'Napa Carpet Industries', one of the successful producers of abaca-made products in the province with a showroom near the area.

On the final thought...

Sumlang is a small village and the place where the lake is located is within the residential area. the road entering the main area of the lake is a barangay road where only one vehicle could enter. Both sides of the road are filled with houses of the residents.

I hope this concern will be given due attention by the local government.

On the overall, Sumlang Lake is a great place to visit.

Reminiscing the Visit to the Temple of Leah

April 15, 2018 4 Comments
Temple

I wasn't expecting to reach Cebu City during that month of July in 2017. I was informed that there was a memo from the regional office to attend a seminar which will be conducted in Cebu. Though I was included in the original memo, an issue on the selection of who will be attending the seminar cropped up and I was dropped from the list. I was saddened upon hearing the news but I couldn't do anything about it because it was the decision of the management. I was assigned to another place and I couldn't go to the main office immediately to ask why there was a sudden change in the decision. What I have known was another officer wanted to attend the seminar.

I already accepted the fact that I won't be able to attend. When I reached home, I received another text message that I was reconsidered as one of the attendees. I immediately booked for a flight to Cebu. it was a good thing that I had a balance in my PayPal account during that time. I used that balance to purchase a ticket with Cebu Pacific.

Our Hotel Accommodation:

That was the first time that I reached Cebu. We stayed at the Crown Regency Hotel which is located at Fuente Towers, Osmena Boulevard in Cebu City. We stayed on the 21st floor so I could see a clear view of the surrounding business establishments around the area.

The activity was only scheduled for two days so much as we want to stay longer so that we may be able to visit more places but to no avail. The only time that we could go around the place was the before we go home.

The group rented a van to bring us to different tourist spots just before we proceed to the airport. One of the places we visited was the Temple of Leah.

The Grand Temple of Leah

One of the places that we visited was the Grand Temple of Leah which is located at Roosevelt St., Busay, Cebu City. The Temple of Leah is inspired by Italian architecture and was made in honor of Teodorico Adarna's wife, Leah. It is quite similar to the great Taj Mahal of India.

Temple of Leah was built on the mountainous part of the city. Before you could reach the main building, you need to walk on a steep concreted area. You will notice the two lions guarding the main entrance of the building.

Statues of three (3) naked maidens can be found on top guarded by horses the middle of wide ground in front of the main edifice.

Taj Mahal is an enormous edifice located in India.

Noticeable parts of the temple are the huge pillars which are holding the main roof of the building and serving as the foundation of the edifice.

In the middle of the temple, a giant bronze statue which is about 9-feet tall of Teodorico Adarna's Queen, Leah Albino-Adarna.

Written on the plaque was Leah V. Albino-Adarna was "Chosen Matron Queen of her Alma Mater, the University of Southern Philippines. This nine-foot bronze statue portrays her composure and regal bearing when she was crowned. May the beholder discern her innate beauty, poise, and genteelness." Signed by Teodorico Soriano Adarna.

How to Go to the Temple of Leah

The best way to go to the place is to hire a van just like what we did when we go there. However, if you prefer to go to the place via other ways of transportation, you may take a taxi, a public utility jeepney or a motorcycle (known as habal-habal) from downtown Cebu.

Temple of Leah is located in Barangay Busay, Cebu City.

Here is the map for easy reference:

Fees

We paid the amount of Php 50.00 ($1.00) for the entrance fee. The amount hasn't been changed since the writing of this post.

Thank you for visiting. Hope you learned something worthwhile on your visit to my blog. Stay tuned for more updates.

Where to Eat in Legazpi City

April 09, 2018 10 Comments

A few days from now, I will be celebrating my birthday but up to this time, I couldn't decide what I will gonna do on that special day. Well, of course, I want something memorable without spending too much. Having to celebrate my special day with my loved ones would be enough.

During the start of the year, I already filed a special privilege leave and forced leave for 5 days covering the days prior and up to my birthdate. So I have a lot of time to rest and to probably visit some places around.

As of now, I am contemplating as to whether I will spend it here in my place or visit other places in the country. Well, maybe I can do both.

I guess I need to make a recap of some of the places that I have visited during the past few months in order to help me decide where I will be celebrating my upcoming special day. Although, I am a very busy mom, having a day job and an online work which I am trying to manage for several years, I also have time to visit some of the famous fast food chains in our place.

Occasionally, I would write reviews about fast food and restaurants that I tried out. I am submitting these articles to my favorite writing site, Bitlanders. Here are some of the latest places that I visited:

Artisan's Specialty Coffee

Artisan's Specialty Coffee is known to be the first minimalist coffee shop in Legazpi City. You will admire the overall white wall with black accent giving the place a highly modernized feel. Simple yet elegant! The white round tables with matching Scandinavian chairs perfectly blend with the overall design of the place.

Who will forget the remarkable service we experienced during our visit? The staff was polite and accommodating and the food we ordered was served after a short wait.
  • The Food and the Coffee
Artisan's Specialty Coffee

We ordered coffee, an Italian-style pasta, a carbonara and a slice of chocolate cake which tasted great.

Italian Style Carbonara

Although the amount seems to be a little higher than the other cafes in the city, I must say that the food and service are worth the price.

The place is best for small gatherings or even alone or with a close friend.

AVP Catering

This is a place for occasions with a medium number of guests.  The wide hall can accommodate 150 to 200 guests. The place caters to different occasions such as birthday parties, weddings, and conferences.

There is a stage that is designed for the conduct of programs for the event. I have been in the place when I was invited to become an emcee during a birthday party.

The food is prepared and served just right. Everything was delicious!

Perhaps I would consider having this place for my birthday party if I have to throw a big party event. But for now, I don't have this plan yet.

Bon Appetea

Bon AppeTea is a place to visit if you would like to break away from your daily work routine. We visited the place twice but haven't been able to return recently because of the tons of work in the office.

The foods being served in this place are awesome you may wanna come back for more.

Honeydew Ice Blended Frappes

Based on its name, you could tell that their specialty products are milk tea. during their opening, they had a buy one-take on promo which we had availed. On another date, we ordered Penne and Cheese Pasta with a toasted waffle on the side (photo below).

Penne and Cheese Pasta

The mouthwatering Banana Hazelnut Waffle Sandwich truly completed my day. The just-right sweetness could be an excuse to eat more.

Banana Hazelnut Waffle Sandwich

We had a truly amazing experience with the site. It's an accessible and convenient place where we could stay for a lazy day or have a small talk with friends. I greatly recommend it to my friends.

Bonchon

Bonchon is another Korean Restaurant that is starting to be popular in the city. along with the popularization of Korean culture in the country, Korean restaurants started to flourish in the area.

Bonchon, meaning “my hometown” in Korean, is a global Korean comfort food restaurant brand that originated from South Korea in 2002. Founder and owner Mr. Jinduk Seo spent years perfecting the distinct cooking technique and addictive sauces that have made Bonchon Chicken the well-loved global phenomenon it is today.

Bonchon Korean Bingsu Brownie

This is a Korean Bingsu Brownie which was served after having our main course. It's a Korean powdered ice topped with crushed brownies and milky creme.

Bonchon specialty is Honey Glazed Fried Chicken. It is the first time I tasted a honey glazed fried chicken and I can say, the taste is good. But I was a little disappointed because of the small serving portion of the chicken.

But on the overall, it was a satisfying experience. Bonchon can be found in Ayala Mall in  Legazpi City.

On the final thought...

I still have a few days more to decide where I will spend my birthday.

If you are looking for a place to escape from the noisy and polluted city life, you may want to consider taking a tour into this hidden haven in the province of Sorsogon.

The place can be found in the municipality of Bulusan in the province of Sorsogon. It is frequently visited by local and foreign visitors. The Balay sa Uma Bee Farm.

After the breathtaking experience in the Bulusan Lake visit, our team proceeded to Balay sa Uma bee Farm. This is the home of the sweet and authentic honey bee which is popular for its unique and one of a kind honey. People from other places will come to this place just to buy the honey.

This is a 3-kilometer bee farm with around 11 species of honey-producing bees.

There are several species of bees being cultured in the place.

The place is just a few meters away from the captivating and charming Bulusan Lake. Balay sa Uma has a function hall that can be used for gatherings and other functions. It has also amenities that could cater to lodging and meal requirements. the foods being served are generally farm products such as native chicken in coconut milk, fried tilapia, and other native delicacies.

The place is surrounded with different herbal and flowering plants.

There is also a fishpond with different fishes swimming here and there.

Staying in this place can be a truly awesome experience. It's a good thing to be at a place away from the polluted city and gets close to nature from time to time.

Here is another video showing the awesome stunning beauty of the place.
